Learners are required to fulfil the Fundamental Component of the qualification, which covers specific Unit Standards at various NQF Levels. These include Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 worth 16 credits, Communication in a First South African Language at NQF Level 4 worth 20 credits, and Communication in a Second South African Language at NQF Level 3 worth 20 credits.
Should learners have successfully passed Mathematics, English, or another First South African Language, as well as a Second South African Language, they may apply for credit transfer to receive the applicable credits.
The Block 4-Afrikaans skills programme comprises 4 Unit Standards in Afrikaans at NQF Level 3, totalling 20 credits. Completion of Block 4-Afrikaans satisfies the language requirement for learners who did not pass a Second South African Language in Grade 12.
